Grey College is known for its sporting excellence. On and off the field, our boys
have proven themselves to be great team players, sportsmen with great sportsmanship
and young men with a winning attitude - all core values of our school. They play
with passion, under the guidance of some world-class coaches, who not only teach
them the game, but also send them home with life skills. There are opportunities
for every learner at GCPB to find a niche among the plethora of sporting activities.
We encourage everyone to be involved in at least one of these activities. It is
of importance to all well balanced young Grey gentleman. |

Grey College Primary's athletes are one of the proudest products of the school. Grey College is one of the most successful schools in primary athletics in the country. Coaching is done by a junior athletic club run by Mr. Eugene Lindeman. The club provides professional coaching in all the major events, such as sprints, hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin, and discus. Coaching is done on the athletic field at Grey, but sometimes use is made of the Free State Athletic Stadium. The athletics season runs from September until March. A number of new cross discipline sports have also emerged over the last couple of years.

Triathlon, a new Olympic Sport, is very popular amongst cross country athletes and swimmers. It is a summer sport, combining swimming, cycling and running.
Our Grey boys enjoy this sport tremendously. Numbers are growing at a steady pace.

Duathlon is a combination of running and cycling which was initiated at Grey in 1995. It is a winter sport of which league - and other meetings are held during the 2nd and 3rd school terms.
This rapidly growing sport is particularly popular amongst cross-country athletes.

In order to promote healthy competition, tours are regularly undertaken to schools in other provinces. Annually two of our most important tours are to Grey Junior in Port Elizabeth and Durban Preparatory School.

The top display of Grey Sport is its rugby. At Grey rugby is played during the second and third terms. There are four age groups: Grade 1, u/9, u/11 and u/13. In each age group five teams are entered into the league.
Grey Rugby allows our boys to develop physically as well as interpersonally within a team setting. We have 35 dedicated coaches for the teams where the boys can play their hearts out on seven rugby fields. In the pre-primary we have a group of about 40 boys learning the basic skills of the game.
Annually we have an inter with Grey P E, where the sides travel to Port Elizabeth by train. There are also tours to Durbanville and Paarl Boys High.
The rugby highlight of the year is the Top Lay Super Series which takes place during the March holiday. Top teams from each region are invited to play in this tournament.

A very healthy league system is in place and all our teams participate on a weekly basis throughout the season. Numerous tours to other cities are organised and the pupils are entertained and educated in this way too. Pupils are exposed to schools in Gauteng, Northern Cape, Northern Free State, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape where a friendly and competitive atmosphere prevails.
The age groups are: u/9, u/11, and u/13.
